It's been a while since I've done a link post, but enough things have caught my eye over the past few days that I think it's worth it. So, enjoy!
- The Hugo Award nominations came out over the weekend and as usual people have been reacting - often negatively. Frankly, I'm not a big fan of awards in general, and I'm especially not a fan of the Hugos. But here are a couple of interesting reactions that have inspired me to comment.
- It sounds as if George R.R. Martin has actually finished A Dance With Dragons (Book Depository, Powell's Books, Indiebound). I've always said I'll believe it when I see it, so until the book is in hand I'm in official denial that he killed Kong.

At the very least, I will reserve belief for when the main site is updated with the news.
Well, Suvudu is reporting that it is complete - and they were apparently in the room when it happened.
However, I welcome denial.
It has been nearly six years since we saw the last one. Denial is much easier at this point.
It's amazing how George works, because for me the end of writing a story is just a prelude to a long period of editing, while it seems as if George must get most of his editing done as he writes. The MS looks longer than all three books of LOTR!
This is one of those moments where I'm glad I only do eBook now. Good God, I don't have shelf space for this monster.
Does anyone else think 2 months is an awfully short time for any editing, given the release "date" is July 12th?
People like Adam over at The Wertzone can really inform you best on this, but GRRM's writing style is to do heavy edits as he goes. As part of this he has submitted chapters to his editor for editing when he finishes them. So for the last few months, most of the book has been through the editing process with only a few chapters oustanding. He wrapped up those last few chapters.
I do imagine there will be a few issues with the fast track schedule, but those will probably be of the copy editing sort and not really a big deal.
I'm fully willing to tolerate a few dangling participles to read in July. Just saying...
