I’m a Winner!

I finally won one of these on-line book contests/drawings! Thanks to Pat over at Pat’s Fantasy Hotlist for setting up the contest and bringing numerous opportunities to get free books. The book I won is His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik, previously published in the UK under the name Temeraire – yep, apparently we Americans aren’t good enough for such a complicated title, but I digress. This book has gotten good reviews from Pat over at Fantasy Hotlist, Jay at Fantasy Bookspot, and many others. I'm looking forward to reading this book and its sequels, Throne of Jade (release later this month), and Black Powder War (release end of May), in the near future.

Thanks again, and I look forward to reading and reviewing it here.
Edit: The review is here.

Americans are always being treated like they're illiterate or something.

First Harry Potter and the "Sorceror's" stone - did they think Americans incapable of understanding the actual legend? And now this.

But after all, "Temeraire" is hard to pronounce. :P

Yeah, we seem to be going through an anti-intellectual phase. Anythign that sounds like intelligence is just flat out ridiculed. No science, let's just educate everyone to a minimum standard (without going over), reading bad (unless its a political opinion book), etc. It's truly nauseating. God forbid we use a word like 'Philosopher' in a book title, or something difficult to pronounce. These same 'people' (whoever 'they' are) are the ones that considered Erikson to sophisticated for the US audience.

Got it in the mail the other day.

Of course now there's a contest at fantasybookspot for a signed copy, plus a copy of the sequel.
